Herbs are quite often used for their culinary flavour, but there are so many more perks than purely taste. Herbal medicine is the oldest and still most widely used medicine in the world, with science constantly validating the ancient wisdom of herbal medicine.
We distinguish herbs from vegetables purely by the fact that due to usually more intense flavours we use them for flavour as opposed to substance. There are so many herbs used the world over, for their medicinal attributes, detoxifying abilities and anti inflammatory properties but today I thought we could look at five common herbs, that we all have access to, or could even grow.
Its easy to incorporate herbs into your daily regime, add them to soups, salads, smoothies, juice them.
Garlic is one of the most widely used herbs the world over and one of the most well studied. Medicinally it’s been found that garlic can be used to lower blood pressure, as an antiseptic, and be useful in reducing blood sugar levels. Its also great for boosting the immune system.
Garlic has also been used historically as an anti-parasitic and as a remedy for cold and flu’s. Please be sure to buy only Australian grown garlic, imported garlic is fumigated with methyl bromide, recognised as a toxic chemical even by the Australian government, ingesting this chemical counteracts the medicinal benefits.
